Let’s get to know each other.

These days navigating the political landscape is treacherous. What is dubbed to be “for the people” has evolved into nefarious plot lines that could be a Shonda-Rhimes sitcom.

I don’t want to sound naive, but what happened to Love Thy Neighbor? Treat others how you’d like to be treated? Simply caring for one another?

In case we’ve not yet met, my name is Samantha Tungul, and I’m running for City Council.

After living in Manassas City for the past five years with my husband and the greater northern Virginia area since 2003, I’m proud to call Virginia home. I have a long track record of volunteering for various groups, animal shelters, and committees (more on that later), but a question folks always ask me when I tell them I’m tossing my hat in the ring is why? Why run for City Council? I’m glad you asked.

Why am I running for City Council?

  • Affordable Housing

Affordable housing is at the top of my list for our bustling city. I want to ensure everyone has accessibility to living in Manassas, and it’s affordable.

  • Smart, Economic Development

With our City only spanning 12 square miles, we have to make the most with what we have, while still preserving the small town charm. Smart, economic development is how we can bring more resources to Manassas without costing citizens more money.

  • Environmental Sustainability

The City’s comprehensive sustainability plan is ambitious, but smart, and doable. I want to continue to support the City’s endeavor on making Manassas a leader and champion to become a Green City.

  • Community Care

Politics are personal, especially at the local level, but I want Manassas’ political scene to feel more inclusive, and encourage more people to get involved.

Me in a snapshot:

  • Military brat — daughter of a United States Air Force veteran

  • Moved up to Northern VA in 2003 from Gastonia, NC

  • Earned Bachelors degree from Roehampton University, London, UK

  • Worked on various government contracts for 22 years

  • Was a Senior Associate at KPMG for five years as a “Big Book” copy editor

  • Left Corporate to manage Honey & Ivy GF off Center Street in Old Town

  • Current Chair of the Manassas City Beautification Committee

  • Served on the Manassas City Solid Waste Committee

  • Animal foster and volunteer for various animal shelters and rescues

Let’s stay connected.
